Chao Wang to join ISE

We are delighted to announce that Chao Wang will be joining the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering as an assistant professor in fall 2019. Chao comes to us from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he will receive his Ph.D. in industrial and systems engineering in May 2019.

Chao’s research focuses on transfer learning and quantification of variable inter-relationship in smart and connected systems in the Internet of Things (IoT) environment. He uses data analytics for modeling, monitoring, and control of complex systems and has worked to deploy data-driven methods to improve decision-making for IoT-enabled systems. His primary research areas include: smart and connected systems; transfer/multitask learning for information fusions; high dimensional data modeling and analysis; and manufacturing process control and infrastructure management.

His research and teaching have been recognized with numerous awards including his recognition as one of the best 15 teaching assistants on the Madison campus; the Gilbreth Memorial Fellowship from the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers; and the E. Wayne Kay Graduate Scholarship from SME.

We are exciting about the research portfolio that Chao will bring to ISE and the trajectory of his scholarship. Please join me in welcoming Chao when he gets to campus.
